I have a stack key that opens the asset browser (via sidearea_toggle) and takes up 50% of the view. This works well. I am trying to do a similar thing, but open it as a window in the same location (same as if I were to hold shift and slightly drag the top left corner of that area.

Sidearea toggle doesn’t seem to have this option, and adding a popup area seems to do chaotic things i.e. the first time I press the hotkey it swaps over the properties area for the asset browser even though the 3D viewport is selected, pressing it a second time does nothing, unless I hover over the original properties area at which point it launches an asset browser window in an odd location with the exact dimensions of the properties area (ignoring any pixel settings).

Is this feature broken in Blender 4.2 or am I doing this incorrectly?
