Wow — thank you so much for taking the time to explain all this in detail. It honestly means a lot to me!
I’ve avoided digging into the keymap system for ages, and until last week I didn’t even know how the different layers worked. So having someone walk through what’s actually going on behind the scenes is incredibly helpful — and encouraging too.
Keymap issues can be so murky — it’s hard to tell whether something’s caused by Blender, by an add-on, or by the user. Sometimes they’re harmless, other times they only show up for heavy customizers. But once I started to understand the structure a bit, the weird behavior started making more sense. That’s why I’m especially glad to hear you’re writing up a proper doc!
I’ll definitely go over your notes again more carefully later — thanks again for sharing them!!!
