It’s because LMB is confirming the extrude as soon as it happens. Try disabling “Release Confirms”.

Or if you’re using one of those extra buttons on the mouse, try mapping it to a regular keyboard key, like "" for example. You can map it either in your mouse driver or use something like AutoHotkey.
